Shooting Star Ass

This ass had one perfect race, once, years ago, and they have been dining out on it ever since with a stamina they no longer bring to actual running. Every conversation finds its way back to that day, the conditions, the splits, the guy they outkicked at the line. The peak was real. It was also singular, and receding, and they have decided to live there permanently. New goals get discussed but never quite attempted, because attempting risks disturbing the legend. A one-hit wonder in running shoes, forever cueing up the same glorious highlight, hoping you have not heard it, knowing full well that you have, at least twice.
